Carlos Pipaón is the lead investigator of the Molecular Hematology Laboratory of IDIVAL, integrated within the Hematology Department of Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla in Santander, Spain. He joined the Genetics Unit of the Hospital in 2001 where he led a project that investigated the cancer predisposition syndrome Fanconi Anemia. He was part of the National Network for cooperative research in Fanconi Anemia from its beginning to find and develop new therapies. His group contributed with several woks on the molecular mechanism of the disease. In 2009 he joined the Hematology Department where, in collaboration with several hematologists, constituted the Molecular Hematology Laboratory (HEMMOL). The group grew with the incorporation of predoctoral students and technicians and new research lines were opened in concordance with the priorities of the department. Since then he has published several works focussed on the alterations of the apoptosis pathways in hematologic neoplasms, he has directed two doctoral and many master theses. The development of his research led him to his actual research line, aimed at the role of post-translational modifications in hematologic neoplasms. He has stablished national and international collaborations and the group is participating in the COST action CA20113 Proteocure, aimed at the study of proteome remodeling as a therapeutic method.
