Heribert Playa-Albinyana is a postdoctoral researcher at the Fundació de Recerca Clínic Barcelona - Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) in the group of Dr. Dolors Colomer: "Experimental therapies in lymphoid neoplasms". His line of research is focused on Richter transformation and the generation of patient-derived xenografts (PDXs).
He is a PhD student through an FPU grant (FPU19/03110) from the Spanish Ministry of Universities. During his predoctoral stage he generated several publications which include: "Chronic lymphocytic leukemia patient-derived xenografts recapitulate clonal evolution to Richter transformation" Leukemia "under revision" 2023 and "Detection of early seeding of Richter transformation in chronic lymphocytic leukemia" Nature Medicine 2022. During his training, he collaborated in university teaching tasks, giving practical classes at the University of Barcelona, as part of his training plan. He also made two training stays, one in Spain in the group of Dr. Julia Almeida (Centro de Investigación del Cáncer, Salamanca) and another international, which allowed him to obtain the title of international doctor, in the group of Dr. Adrian Wiestner at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (Bethesda, USA).
He has received several awards for his research work such as the 2022: 2022 ASH Abstract Achievement Award for the oral communication he gave in New Orleans, USA, during the "64th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition"; or the one received at the International Workshop on CLL during the XX IWCLL Meeting held in Boston, USA, between October 6 and 9, 2023.
Finally, he is also a member of the Spanish Biology Olympiad Association, which promotes the organization of the National Scientific Olympiads, in the field of biology.
